Kane County Bar Association Expands Services with Safe Driver Program
The Kane County Bar Association officially launched the SafeRoads Kane County driving school program in April after taking over administration of the court-supervised traffic safety program previously operated by Waubonsee Community College. The transition follows a 2025 agreement with the 16th Judicial Circuit and a Supreme Court ruling affirming the chief judge's authority over administration of the program.
The SafeRoads Kane County program provides traffic safety education for drivers receiving court supervision for minor traffic violations. Eligible drivers may complete either online or in-person defensive driving classes offered in Elgin, St. Charles and Aurora. Participants can now choose class dates and times that best fit their schedules through a new registration system.
Officials say the program creates a new revenue source for the nonprofit bar association, which relies on membership dues to support its operations and professional programs. Established in 1858, the Kane County Bar Association is the oldest bar association in Illinois and today includes more than 1,000 attorneys, judges, paralegals and law students.
