Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Gemini
“The cat could very well be man's best friend but would never stoop to admitting it." – Doug Larson, columnist & editor, Wisconsin-based newspapers
She was found in a backyard along with her sister, Taurus, and brought to KCAC.
It took a while before this 5-month-old, spayed white and gray Domestic Shorthair named Gemini felt comfortable enough to allow someone to pet her because she wasn't very socialized. When she arrived at the shelter, she would hiss and show off her bravado and spitfire. This tiny, petite kitten seemed willing to take on the entire world in order to protect herself or her brothers and sisters. She was a female David to the shelter's Goliath.
Once she was separated from her siblings, however, she started to realize that all those petting sessions she was receiving from so many KCAC staff members suddenly didn't seem all that scary. These humans actually sat with her, talked to her and softly petted her. There was food and water and blankets to snuggle in if she got scared.
It got to the point that if a human came into the cat room, she would run towards them, hoping she would get more of those pets—and she did.
The gray patch over her right eye runs almost entirely down her face, while the other half, which is mostly white, is tipped with a bit of gray. It's almost as if she is two cats in one, which definitely fits with her name.
Supposedly, Gemini of the Zodiac sign is that of twins who have so many interests and pursuits, they have to juggle their time to get them all accomplished. Once Gemini, the kitten, became more socialized, her days were filled with wanting to get petted and held even more. Her purrs became more frequent while she began playing with her toys more often.
Gemini may still take her time to get to know strangers or to warm up to her new family members, but she definitely is much quicker at accepting humans and getting her share of hugs, pets and loving.
It shouldn't take any time at all for Gemini to happily fill her days with all the activities of her new family.
From abandoned feisty spitfire to loving and charming feline, Gemini is on her way to have it all!
KCAC Pupdates
Congratulations to Sailor, the 2-year-old black and white Siberian Husky that doesn't act like a typical husky. Her new forever family definitely is large enough to keep her busy with all the walks, runs or zoomies she will ever want.
Sailor was so excited to finally do her freedom walk. With just a nod to everyone who came to the lobby to wish her well, she was gone, ready to show her new family how grateful and happy she was that they chose her.
