Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Aspen

KCAC's Adorable, Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control. 9/7/2024 10:00AM

“The dog's agenda is simple, fathomable, overt: I want. 'I want to go out, come in, eat something, lie here, play with that, kiss you.'" – Caroline Knapp, American writer & columnist

Her colors are black, brown, tan and white with ocean blue piercing eyes you can almost swim in. Her ears like to stand up straight, all the better to hear everything that's going on, just in case you're going to start talking about her.

She is a 1-year-old Siberian Husky-mix with a whole “lotta diva-tude" mixed in and her name is Aspen. Typical of most huskies, she has a very sweet and playful disposition. She very much prefers tennis balls and will allow you to take one from her as long as you're planning on throwing it.    aspen1.jpg

It's not easy for a girl to maintain her beautiful exterior. It takes work and a lot of effort. For those who have never owned a Siberian Husky, it's important to understand that they do not have the same oily skin as other dog breeds. They leave that annoying “doggie" odor everywhere!

In fact, huskies are known as a breed that is practically “self-cleaning," so, even if they get themselves dirty, they have the ability to just shake the dirt off and watch it as it falls to the floor.

General maintenance for Aspen is just daily brushings of her undercoat and guard coat with maybe a bath a couple times a year. Easier than pressing the button on a dishwasher!

As with any dog that has been living in a shelter, Aspen will need some socialization and training. Since becoming a KCAC resident, she has been exposed to other dogs and has done well with them. She might actually enjoy a home with energetic teenagers or a like-minded dog that will become her brother or sister.

We're not ready to recommend she share her new home with smaller animals or cats as yet, but Aspen is as ready as she will ever be to go to her new home. Are you ready?
