Kane County Pet of the Week - Carrot
“There's a lot of cat videos. Cats are just hilarious." – Lil Peep, born Gustav Elijah Ahr, American singer, rapper & producer
He's is a 1-plus-year-old, neutered orange cat that was found as a stray, so we named him Carrot.
He's a big boy with chubby cheeks made for gently squishing. He has green eyes that quizzically stare right into anyone who stops long enough to admire him.
At the moment, he seems a little afraid of everyone, everything and anything. Hiding is his favorite pastime. Waiting for people to leave the room is another sport he enjoys. As he hides in his kennel, he watches as people pass by. Perhaps he hopes to engage with them eventually, or maybe he's banking on meeting his forever family soon so he can end his time in this kennel chaos.
Generally speaking, orange cats are a little more social and outgoing than other felines. They enjoy the interaction with people as well as other cats. Sometimes, they act more like a small dog, even coming when called by their owner.
Carrot hasn't developed that trust as yet, preferring to hide whenever possible. It's not really his fault, though. It's the fault of whoever abandoned him in frigid January weather and never gave it another thought. Perhaps that's the reason he burrows into comforters or blankets that the shelter staff have made into small hive-like caves.
All is not lost, however! Carrot will actually come up to people for scratches under the chin, which is his absolute preferred type of pets. Given enough time, enough nurturing, enough absolute care, the signs are there for Carrot to grow into himself as an orange cat and become quite the social feline.
So, the question hanging in the air is, do you have the patience to give Carrot a home when there's no guarantee he will ever come out from under the bed? Are you willing to give chin scratches day or night so Carrot can begin to know the person he can trust is you? Are you able to make small caves with blankets and comforters for him to hide in while you binge-watch your favorite series?
Are you Carrot's fur-ever person?
