Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Xena
“Our perfect companions never have fewer than four feet." – Sidonie Gabrielle Colette, author & novelist, early 20th century
She doesn't get any visitors.
No one comes to look at her with the intention of maybe adopting her. She doesn't understand how she came to be here in the first place, especially because she knows she has such a great personality.
She's only a puppy, after all. A puppy Pit Bull-mix with the name of a warrior princess. The name Xena was given to her by Kane County Animal Control shelter staff because she was found as a stray. At only 9-months-old, she had to become a survivor so early in her life. For all of that, she deserves a name that has some “skin in the game."
She's brown brindle and black with a stripe of white around her black nose and between her saucer-like brown eyes. When you stare into them, you feel as though you could swim in them—that's how deep they appear.
She looks eager, expectant time and time again as people pass by but no one comes for her. She gets excited when she meets other dogs and seems to get along well with them, only showing signs of wanting to play.
She walks easily on a leash, not even jumping up or getting excited. Someone perhaps attempted to train her at one time before they lost interest. The perfect family just needs to continue to train her, to let her know they care about her by giving her boundaries and sticking with them.
She likes to smile and despite her rough beginnings, she makes everyone around her feel a little lighter, a little happier. Dainty little feet hold up her solid frame as she practically dances when she thinks someone finally noticed her.
Because she's a puppy, her attention span is that of a gnat. One minute she's all about the squishy toy you just threw down the hallway for her, the next minute she's doing zoomies and putting her nose into everyone else's business.
Xena is a sweetheart who wants a loving family to give her attention as well as cuddles, kisses and tummy rubs. She would definitely enjoy having a sibling to play with, but if nothing else, she could live with long walks at the beginning of the day and maybe one in the evening before the sun goes down.
Then, maybe Xena will realize that she finally has that forever family she only dreamed about for so long.
