Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week -Misty

KCAC's Adorable, Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control. 7/14/2024 2:00PM

“It is impossible for a lover of cats to banish these alert, gentle, and discriminating friends, who give us just enough of their regard and complaisance to make us hunger for more." – Agnes Repplier, 19th Century American essayist

The leading lady in this story is a svelte, 10-month old brown and black Domestic Shorthair named Misty. Somebody let her go around a forest preserve. She just so happened to be pregnant.

Forced to survive the best way she could, her chances of making it looked pretty slim because cats left outside usually don't fare as well as indoor cats.

Fortunately for her and her soon-to-be-babies, Misty's luck of the draw finally kicked in. She was found, rescued and brought to KCAC. Overnight, she gave birth to her kittens. Sadly, only one of her babies survived, but, luckily, there were other baby kittens in the shelter that needed a foster mom.

Misty's motherly instincts took over and just like cats to a litterbox, moths to a flame…well, you get the idea. She raised these new kittens as her own and all of them have since found loving homes.

Despite her life not starting out perfectly during the first few months of her life, Misty has kept her sweet disposition. She seems to like people and other cats, although she is a little shy at first meeting.

Once she begins to trust, however, she will give little head-butts to whoever is near her.  Misty will make a wonderful addition to a home with either no cats or a home where she would be lucky enough to have brothers or sisters.

And it turns out she is quite the gymnast. She might be the feline equivalent to Simone Biles, as she climbs on her crate, shelving, cat towers and basically anything that is easily accessible for her to use as the tallest perch in the room.

Lots of cats like to climb, but Misty seems to have an extra flair for agility as she nimbly moves higher and higher.

Once at the apex, she gets into a comfortable position so she can watch the world turn around her, proving once again, according to Garfield's creator, Jim Davis, “Cats rule the world."
