Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Hanson

KCAC's Adorable, Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control. 6/9/2024 12:00PM

“If you eliminate smoking and gambling, you will be amazed to find that almost all an Englishman's pleasures can be, and mostly are, shared by his dog." George Bernard Shaw, Irish playwright & critic

“The bigger they are, the harder they fall," is an old adage that could very well be reworded to read “The larger they are, the more timid they are," which could definitely apply to Hanson, a 1-year-old brown and white Pit Bull Terrier-mix. He's quite a big boy for his age with the courage of Scooby Doo and the heart of, let's say, Charlie Brown.

Don't get us wrong, he's a sweetheart of a dog. You might even say he's a gentle giant. He just gets scared and doesn't seem to like it when there are quick movements, but if people go slow with him then he might come out from behind the chair where he's been hiding.

He seems to like other dogs no matter their size. He's very interested in playing with them and seems to enjoy their company. Once he finds his forever home, it should become a priority for his new family to socialize him with other dogs and people, as well as introduce him to as many different experiences as possible.   hanson2 (1).jpg

He enjoys a soft toy and he's all in for a game of keep-away. Throw the ball and he'll run after it, or just pet him and watch his tail wag. His tail wags a lot, almost as if he doesn't have any control over it, as if it has a life of its own.

He enjoys walks and walks easily on a leash although he may pull occasionally. His new family can use those moments to gently and positively train him to not pull so everyone can enjoy a leisurely daytime or evening stroll.

Sharing time with Hanson is never wasted because the more time spent with him is always a wonderful experience that will lead to hugs, kisses and more tail wagging.

KCAC Pupdates

Congratulations to Astra, the 3-year-old, all white, female Siberian Husky found as a stray. Astra has been the star of the kennel with her sweet disposition and her playfulness, always ready for a few belly rubs and hugs.

Her picture on KCAC's website caught her new family's attention along with the glowing description of her magical personality in Kane County Connects. Once they met her, it took almost no time at all for Astra to head out the door with her now new family leading the way. With promises of pictures and updates, Astra rode away into her next adventure.

We will miss you, baby girl, but we know you are going to shine in your new home with all that love around you!
