Kane County Lawyer in the Lobby Returns

Kane County Bar Association Media Release 2/12/2025 3:00AM

In recognition of the ongoing need of Kane County residents, the Kane County Bar Association is restarting its Lawyer in the Lobby program. This free program allows Kane County residents to obtain legal guidance on civil matters at no cost. Examples include landlord-tenant disputes, evictions, foreclosures, name changes, small claims cases, estates, wills, and guardianships.

The program is designed for self-represented litigants seeking answers to their questions about the law and legal procedures in civil matters. Attorney volunteers from the Kane County Bar Association, experienced in these areas, will be available to answer questions on Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to noon in the lobby of the Kane County Courthouse, 100 S. Third Street, Geneva. No appointments are necessary, but meetings will be limited to 15 minutes per person. Participants will be asked to complete a short disclosure form before meeting with an attorney.

The Lawyer in the Lobby program originally started in the fall of 2011 and ran successfully for almost a decade, helping thousands of Kane County residents with legal questions before being paused due to COVID-19. The program is being restarted to meet the community’s ongoing legal needs.

While Lawyer in the Lobby focuses on civil matters, those seeking assistance with family law or criminal cases are encouraged to explore other public resources.
