Kane County Board Approves Strategic Planning Agreement to Strengthen Future Direction
The Kane County Board, by a vote of 14 to 8, has approved an agreement with Berry, Dunn, McNeil & Parker, LLC (dba BerryDunn) to provide strategic planning services, marking a new step toward shaping the County's future. Over the course of the next year, BerryDunn will work closely with county leadership, staff, community leaders, and residents to develop a comprehensive five-year strategic plan—something that hasn't been done since 2006.
“This is a unique opportunity to bring together the voices of our community to build a comprehensive plan which addresses the evolving needs of our residents, and will establish a clear path forward for the next five years," said Kane County Board Chairman Corinne Pierog. “With input from across the County, the Board will create a forward-thinking, action-oriented roadmap that aligns with our current values and future vision."
The planning process will actively involve the community, gathering feedback through surveys, public forums, and stakeholder meetings to ensure that the priorities and concerns of residents are reflected.
“It's planning for the future while being cost-effective, and that's what a strategic plan will help us do," said County Board member Ted Penesis (District 16).
County Board member David Young (District 15) emphasized the importance of ensuring the plan identifies opportunities for cost savings, program adjustments, and overall financial efficiency to benefit taxpayers.
The strategic plan will focus on setting priorities, defining the County's role in the community, and providing measurable goals for key initiatives. It will also incorporate findings from the Kane County 2040 Land Plan and the County's recently adopted Climate Action Implementation Plan, ensuring alignment with ongoing efforts to promote health, sustainability, and community development.
Progress and performance measures, including milestones, outputs, and outcomes, will be regularly reviewed by County Board committees to track goal achievement and make necessary adjustments.
