Take a Bird's-Eye View of the Bunker Road Extension Project Near LaFox Metra Station
One of Kane County's current transportation projects is taking shape and now you can see it from a whole new perspective.
Watch the drone video above for a bird's-eye view of the Bunker Road Extension Project near LaFox, just west of Geneva, where the Kane County Division of Transportation is making steady progress on a new roadway connection that will improve travel, reduce congestion and enhance access to the LaFox Metra Station. The drone video was captured by Kane County GIS (Geographic Information System) team. VIEW VIDEO
The project extends Bunker Road beneath the Union Pacific railroad tracks, creating a new connection to LaFox Road and Route 38. It also includes construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Bunker and Keslinger roads to improve traffic flow and safety.
As part of the project, Keslinger Road is currently closed to traffic while crews construct the new roundabout and complete roadway improvements. The closure is expected to remain in place through November 2026.
The new roundabout will become Kane County's fifth county-owned roundabout, joining others at:
- IL 47 and Plato Road
- IL 47 and Burlington Road
- Burlington Road and Bolcum Road
- Fabyan Parkway, Main Street and Bliss Road
Roundabouts have become increasingly popular because they keep traffic moving while reducing serious crashes. By slowing vehicles and eliminating many of the conflict points found at traditional intersections, roundabouts improve safety, reduce delays and lower fuel consumption by minimizing stop-and-go traffic.
How to Drive Through a Roundabout
If you're unfamiliar with roundabouts, they're easy to navigate:
- Slow down as you approach.
- Yield to traffic already circulating in the roundabout.
- Enter when there is a safe opening.
- Stay in your lane as you travel through the circle.
- Signal your exit and leave the roundabout.
