KDOT Crews Quickly Restore Roadway Following Historic Storm - Scott Road

After just 12 days of emergency repairs, Scott Road has reopened following the devastating flooding that struck Kane County over the Fourth of July holiday.    

The roadway was severely damaged when intense rainfall caused a culvert at Duffin Drain, a tributary of Welch Creek in the Big Rock Creek Watershed, to fail. The washout forced the closure of Scott Road between Dauberman and Dugan roads while Kane County Division of Transportation (KDOT) crews worked to restore the roadway.

The July 4 storm brought historic rainfall to Kane County. In less than 48 hours, Sugar Grove received nearly 8.5 inches of rain, Aurora more than 8 inches, Batavia 5.5 inches, and Elgin and Gilberts just over 5 inches. At the height of the storm, every county road south of Interstate 88 was overtopped by floodwaters.

Despite the extensive damage, KDOT's maintenance crews completed the repairs in just 12 days.
