Longmeadow Parkway Project Honored with National Award for Engineering Excellence
Kane County’s Longmeadow Parkway Bridge Corridor—spanning the Fox River near Carpentersville—has earned national recognition for engineering. The project was awarded an Engineering Excellence Award by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) during a ceremony held earlier this month in Washington, D.C.
This major infrastructure effort, which took three decades to plan and complete, was one of only six projects from Illinois to receive a National Recognition Award.
The annual Engineering Excellence Awards highlight innovative and engineering achievements from around the globe. According to ACEC, the awards celebrate projects that not only demonstrate technical excellence but also improve lives through creative problem-solving and design.
The Longmeadow Parkway Bridge Corridor Project also received a 2025 Engineering Excellence Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois (ACEC-IL).
The Longmeadow Parkway, a $200 million initiative, created a 5.6-mile corridor stretching from Huntley Road in the west to Illinois Route 62 in the east. It includes a four-lane suburban highway and a 788-foot, four-span bridge crossing the Fox River—providing a new connection for motorists in northern Kane County.
The Longmeadow Parkway Bridge Corridor officially opened to the public in August of 2024.
