Direct Route for Emergency Responders and Others in Southwest Kane County
The project to extend Dauberman Road in Big Rock has been in the works since 2009 after concerns were raised about the interference of train traffic from the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Freight Line with emergency response by police and fire.
Official groundbreaking on the project took place on Tuesday May 16, 2023 in the nearby Big Rock Camp Grounds where dignitaries, Kane County representatives and others gathered to recognize the work, collaboration and funding necessary to start construction. The $24 million-dollar project will extend Dauberman Road from Route 30 to Granart Road and construct single-span bridges on Dauberman Road over Route 30 and over the BNSF railway. The project will enhance safety for school buses, motorists and pedestrians, along with providing direct access for emergency responders to avoid train delays.
“Endeavors like this aren't possible without funding," said Kane County Board Chair Corinne Pierog. “Federal and state funds provided over $16 million or just over two-thirds of the total cost of construction, reducing the financial burden locally." It's estimated construction to extend and improve Dauberman Road will be completed in November of 2024. To learn more about the project, click here. https://youtu.be/W-H_NL-SUeQ
