The Sixteenth Judicial Circuit Judges would like to welcome Kimberly (Kim) DiGiovanni and William (Bill) Engerman to their new roles as Associate Judges for the Kane County justice system. Attorney DiGiovanni was a member of the Law Offices of Kim DiGiovanni, LTD, and Attorney Engerman was the Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division, head of the Major Crimes Unit for the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office. DiGiovanni and Engerman received the most Sixteenth Judicial Circuit judges’ votes, qualifying them to fill the positions left by the elevation of the Honorable Julio Cesar Valdez to the seat of Circuit Judge effective August 16, 2022 (following Judge John Noverini’s retirement) and the passing of Associate Judge William Parkhurst on August 26, 2022.
DiGiovanni expressed gratitude after learning she was selected to serve as an associate judge, “I can’t wait to begin working with this amazing group of people who I will learn so much from.” Prior to earning her Juris Doctorate from DePaul University College of Law in 2003, DiGiovanni was a judicial law clerk for the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit and also served as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Kane County. In addition to her law office practice, DiGiovanni served as special counsel for the Kane County cities of Aurora, Elgin, and East Dundee and was responsible for the prosecution of their DUI charges. Her background includes practicing family law and serving as a Guardian ad Litem. Kim lives in the Fox Valley area with her family and dogs and in her spare time enjoys traveling and new dining experiences.
Engerman shares, “I am humbled by my selection as an associate judge and look forward to continue serving the citizens of Kane County in this new position.”
Engerman earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and, in 1988, earned his Juris Doctorate from American University, Washington College of Law. He started his law career in Maryland with the Law Offices of Neil Axel, then moved to Chicago where he worked for Borovsky & Ehrlich and the Law Offices of Robert D. Kuzas before becoming an Assistant State’s Attorney with Kane County from 2001-2008 and then again from 2011 to present. Bill lives locally with his wife, Amy, their daughter Tess, and their beloved dog Huey. When he has spare time, he enjoys playing drums for the local band, Shoop Dogs.
Chief Judge Clint Hull expressed his utmost confidence in the selection of Attorneys DiGiovanni and Engerman for the Kane County associate judge vacancies. “While the passing of Judge Parkhurst makes this a difficult time for all of us here at the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit, we are eager for attorneys DiGiovanni and Engerman to help us continue Judge Parkhurst’s legacy of excellence on the bench.”
