May 15 Blood Drive in Elgin a Tribute To Rabbi Margaret Frisch Klein

May 15 Blood Drive in Elgin a Tribute To Rabbi Margaret Frisch Klein

Congregation Kneseth Israel is hosting a blood drive Sunday (May 15, 2022) that benefits the Elgin community but also has some special meaning for the sponsor organization.

“Recently, the Congregation Kneseth Israel’s rabbi, Rabbi Margaret Frisch Klein, received a bone marrow transplant for multiple myeloma, a blood cancer,” event organizers said in a flyer.

“As part of the bone marrow transplant process, Rabbi Margaret required some blood and platelets. Please help us pay tribute to Rabbi Margaret by participating in our May 15 blood drive.”

The blood drive will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday in the social hall of Congregation Kneseth Israel, 330 Division St., Elgin.

Walk-ins are welcome but appointments are appreciated. To schedule an appointment, click on this link to the Versiti Blood Center of Illinois website, call (800) 7TO-GIVE or scan the QR code above or in the flyer below.

In an email to promote the blood drive, event organizer Robin Coyne said Klein is a beloved and active member of the Elgin community. The blood drive is supported on the website of the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce and many other community organizations.

“In the Book of Leviticus, we read, ‘Do not stand idly by while your neighbor bleeds.’ In the same portion we are told ‘to love our neighbors as ourselves.’ Participating in a blood drive is one of the best ways of living out these Bible verses.

“Remember for every pint donated, three lives are saved!”
