The village of Wayne will hold a Town Hall meeting with limited in-person attendance Saturday to help determine the fate of the village’s Police Department.
According to a village of Wayne news release, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Gov. JB Pritzker’s emergency declaration, the number of persons to attend the meeting in person is limited, so the public is invited to attend via a Zoom conference with the following log-in instructions:

The meeting is set for 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at the village of Wayne office, 5N430 Railroad St.
The meeting is a discussion session for the public hosted by Public Safety Chair Pete Connolly and Chief of Police John Naydenoff.
According to the village news news release, its purpose is “to discuss the current structure of our Police Department, how the current law enforcement environment and recent legislation is negatively affecting policing in general, and specifically the village of Wayne and the board’s commitment to maintain our Police Department.
“We will also address the changes we feel are necessary to allow us to keep this key asset of the village and the increased costs that will need to be funded to make this all happen. We will also update you on the status of our search for a new chief of police.”
The presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer segment for the public.
Officials said the town hall meeting might be attended by enough members of the Board of Trustees that it would constitute a majority of a quorum and be subject to the regulations of the Open Meetings Act. However, officials said there will be no public business discussed by the board members, and no action will be taken on any matter by the board.
