Elgin and West Dundee are extending their leaf collection periods, due in large part to the late fall.
And while this news release is from those two Kane County communities specifically, it might be wise to check your municipality’s website to see if there’s a similar change in your neck of the woods.
Trees have been slow to drop their leaves this year due to the dry summer and unseasonably warm start to the fall season. Check out this Good Natured story about the late fall color.
West Dundee Extends Leaf Collection
This year’s Leaf Collection program has been extended through this week. Final leafcollection will be completed by Friday, Dec. 3.
Please do not place any new leaves in the street after Wednesday, Dec. 1, as they will not be collected. During the week of Dec. 6, street cleaning will be conducted village-wide.
The Fall Leaf Collection Program allows residents to deposit leaves in the street, in small piles approximately 12 inches from the curb line. The West Dundee Public Works Department then collects the leaves using a leaf vacuum and other equipment.
In order to successfully close out leaf collection season and prepare for the coming snow season, the village requests the following:
- Please do not place leaves on the street after Dec. 1.
- Please be mindful not to place leaves on top of storm sewer drains to avoid flooding.
- Please be mindful not to include large or solid debris, such as black walnuts or sticks, which can damage collection equipment and delay service.
If you have any questions, please contact the Public Works Department at 847-551-3815.
Please note that Curbside Yard Waste Collection ended as of last week. Yard waste should be stored for disposal in the spring or used to cover landscape beds over the winter. Yard Waste collection will begin again the first full week of March (March 11 collection date).
Elgin Extends Leaf Collection an Extra Week
On-street leaf collection in designated areas has been extended one week.
On-street leaf collection will now end on Thursday, Dec. 9.
Free bagged yard waste collection ends this Friday, Dec. 3.
