Elgin Woman Dies of Gunshot Wound After Sunday Shooting

The Elgin Police Department is actively seeking information about a Sunday shooting incident that has resulted in the death of a 22-year-old Elgin woman.

According to an Elgin Police Department Facebook post and a Kane County Coroner’s Office news release, Crystal Lopez succumbed to injuries she sustained during a Sunday, Nov. 21, shooting in the 800 block of Jefferson Avenue.

Officers responded to that area at 6:27 p.m. and found Lopez had been shot and seriously injured. She was transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office was contacted at around 10:42 p.m. Sunday and transported Lopez to the Kane County Morgue, where an autopsy was conducted on Monday.

Toxicology samples were collected at the time of the autopsy and sent to a forensic lab for analysis. The preliminary cause of death is injury consistent with a gunshot wound.

Detectives from the Major Investigations Division and Special Investigations Group are actively investigating the case.
