No New Kane County School Outbreaks Reported This Week By IDPH

There were no new Kane County COVID-19 school outbreaks this week posted by the Illinois Department of Public Health — and, in fact, the total number of Kane County school outbreaks this year dropped from 15 last week to 13 this week.

The IDPH site does not say why the outbreaks number dropped, but the two no longer on the site — less than five cases at East Aurora School District 131 and Kaneland John Shields Elementary — were both first reported Aug. 27.

The IDPH defines an outbreak as two or more COVID-19 cases who may have a shared exposure on school grounds and are from different households. The data is reported weekly and derived from information from local health departments.
