Coroner Identifies Skeletal Remains Found in Wooded Area in Elgin

The Kane County Coroner’s Office has identified the skeletal remains found Oct. 9 in a wooded area of Trout Park in Elgin.

According to a Coroner’s Office news release, the Elgin Police Department is conducting a death investigation after skeletal remains were found in a wooded area near 576 Trout Park Boulevard.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and transported the subject to the Kane County Morgue.

On Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021, an autopsy was performed and on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021, a forensic odontologist performed an examination.

On Friday, Oct. 15, 2021, a positive identification was confirmed via dental records and partial fingerprints.

The subject was identified as Carl Ahrens, a 48-year-old white male.

According to the Coroner’s Officer report, Ahrens’ last known residence was in and around the homeless community of Elgin.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office is working with the Elgin Police Department and the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force in this ongoing investigation.
