Mill Creek Residents Will See Lower Costs, Added Services Under New Trash, Recycling, Yard Waste Contract
Mill Creek will change waste and recycling service providers as of Nov. 1, 2021, from Advanced/WM to LRS (formerly known as Lakeshore Recycling Systems).
Residents can expect the same trash, recycling and yard waste/food scrap services as they are currently receiving along with new added services, all for less than the current cost.
Kane County Division of Environmental and Water Resources negotiates the trash and recycling service contract for the Mill Creek Special Service Area in order to secure the best services for the lowest cost for the residents of Mill Creek. The residents pay for service directly to the service provider.
The new five-year contract with LRS was approved by the Kane County Board on Sept. 14, 2021.
Residents of Mill Creek will receive a mailed brochure from LRS later this week with initial program details and contact information.
LRS will be delivering carts beginning the week of Oct. 18, with initial deliveries expected to be completed before Nov 1.
Advanced/WM will be removing their carts by Oct. 29, immediately following the last day of service. Residents are asked to leave Advanced Disposal carts out for removal until they are removed.
LRS will deliver the same type and size trash carts you have under the current plan unless you request otherwise by the deadline mentioned in the mailed brochure.
Residents at all service levels will pay less than they are currently paying. Added services include two free curbside collection events in (spring and in fall) for electronics (including up to two TVs and seven items total). White goods (washers, dryers, refrigerators) will also be removed from the curb free of charge (one-per-week limit).
Residents will have access to online program information and educational guides within the next month. Information will also soon be updated at on the Mill Creek page of the Kane County Government website.
