Join ‘It’s Our Fox River Day’! Cleanup Events Set for Saturday, Sept. 18, Throughout Kane County

If you love the Fox River but don’t enjoy seeing all the trash along the river, volunteer with us to help beautify the area.

Join the Forest Preserve District of Kane County and Friends of the Fox River, for the third annual, “It’s Our Fox River Day,” events from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 18, at locations throughout Kane County.

Friends of the Fox

The Forest Preserve Fox River clean-up will be held at two locations this year — Glenwood Park Forest Preserve in Batavia and Jon J. Duerr Forest Preserve in South Elgin.

But the event, organized by the Friends of the Fox River, includes dozens of environmental and civic agency partners. On Saturday, hundreds of watershed residents will come out for around 20 River Cleanup and celebration events covering a span of more than 60 miles of the Fox River.

This is the largest coordinated event of its kind in the Fox River Watershed.

On this day of service and celebration, participants will enhance water quality by restoring habitat and protect wildlife from litter entanglement and ingestion. Join others and connect with nature at an event near you.

All cleanup volunteers should bring their own drinking water, gloves, and appropriate footwear. Consider also bringing retail-sized plastic bags and/or 5-gallon buckets for collecting.

“Help us protect and clean the Fox River, while browsing environmental education exhibits and more,” Forest Preserve District of Kane County officials said in a news release. “We’ll preserve the Fox River by cleaning up the river, river banks, and trails.”

Drinking water, snacks, disposable gloves, and trash bags will be provided.

All volunteers – individuals, groups and organizations – are invited. To register as a volunteer, visit: https://friendsofthefoxriver.org/fox-river-day-2021/ or email CleaveRobb@kaneforest.com.

Glenwood Park Forest Preserve is located at 1644 S. River St., Batavia and Jon J. Duerr Forest Preserve is located at 35W003 Rte. 31, South Elgin.

Event details continue to be added daily. Visit the Facebook event page to stay up to date. Register as a volunteer here.
