Health Department: COVID-19 Vaccinations Top 600,000 in Kane County

The Kane County Health Department today (Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021) reports that more than 600,000 COVID vaccine shots have been administered in Kane County.

According to information from the Illinois Department of Public Health, as of Sept. 29, 600,750 shots have been provided to Kane County residents. IDPH data shows that 297,081, or 55.61% of Kane’s total population of 534,216 are fully vaccinated.

Of the doses administered, the age group 65 and older has the largest participation rate, at 88.69%, marking Kane as 13th highest county participation rate for that demographic group.

Persons aged 18 to 64 follows at 69.72% (sixth highest county in the state) and youth aged 12 to 17 trails with 57.83% participation (9th highest county in the state).

“We are pleased that the Kane County Health Department has been a huge part of providing a service for people who want to be vaccinated,” said KCHD Interim Executive Director Kathy Fosser. “We will do our best to continue to provide this service as long as there is a need.”

Yesterday, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, recommended urgent action to increase COVID-19 vaccination among people who are pregnant, recently pregnant (including those who are lactating), who are trying to become pregnant now, or who might become pregnant in the future. CDC strongly recommends COVID-19 vaccination either before or during pregnancy because the benefits of vaccination outweigh known or potential risks.

According to the CDC, Kane County’s COVID transmission rate is still rated “high”.
