Village of Elburn Seeks Input on Developing Area Around Metra Station

What one word would you use to describe downtown Elburn today?

That’s the first question of a survey that Elburn officials will use to guide decision on new development around the Elburn train station. Click here to take the survey!

The village and the Regional Transit Authority are requesting the public input to develop a land plan to provide connectivity between the area around the Metra station and the downtown business district.

“Input from residents and businesses is critical to developing a plan that addresses community concerns while enhancing the character and viability of the area,” Elburn officials said in a recent news release.

To make it easier for folks to learn more about the project and to offer input, the village has created a new web portal called Elburn Connects

Teska and Associates, the village’s consultants, were at Elburn Days on Saturday, Aug. 21, to gather was much feedback as they could. But if you missed that event, no worries. There’s still time to take the four-question survey and enter to win $25 at Ream’s or Alice’s!

The goal of the Elburn Connects TOD Plan is to create a shared vision for undeveloped land surrounding the Elburn Metra station and in Downtown Elburn. Informed by the community, the plan will identify ways to encourage transit-oriented development and infrastructure projects that will improve connectivity between downtown and the Metra station.

The plan will help the village identify and implement strategies and projects to improve the area, including:

  • Multi-modal accessibility and potential infrastructure improvements to better connect downtown to new development opportunities.
  • Land use and zoning improvements that encourage TOD and redevelopment in downtown.
  • Economically viable opportunities for business growth that benefits residents, businesses, and visitors.
