Kane County Sheriff’s Office detectives teamed with state and local law enforcers to break up a landscaping equipment theft ring and recover deadly weapons and drugs.
According to a Sheriff’s Office news release, sheriff’s detectives, along with investigators from the Mokena Police Department and the Illinois State Police SWAT Team, executed a search warrant in the 900 block of Willow Lane in Sleepy Hollow following an investigation into a landscaping equipment theft ring.
Investigators recovered more than 40 suspected stolen items at the residence and several connected storage lockers in the area. Detectives also recovered several firearms, one of which was modified into a fully automatic weapon, plus ammunition, a ballistic vest, and seven grams of cocaine.
The resident, Pedro Evaristo, 21, was arrested at the home and charged with five Class X felonies for possession of the fully-automatic firearm as a felon, possession of a ballistic vest by a felon, and three counts of armed violence. Evaristo was also charged with eight other felony counts related to the firearms and ammunition possession, and a Class 4 felony for possession of cocaine.
Charges against Evaristo are not proof of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
