The 2021 Big Rock Plowing match will return in September 2021 after a year’s hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Organizers made the announcement this week that the 127th Big Rock Plowing Match & Festival — one of the oldest events of its kind in America — will return Sept. 17 to Sept. 19 at Plowman’s Park, 48W508 Hinckley Road, Big Rock.
“We are thrilled to be able to set into motion plans for the 127th anniversary of the Big Rock Plowing Match & Festival on Sept. 17-19 and the Bull Riding event on Aug. 14,” organizers said via the Big Rock Plowing Match Facebook page.
The celebration of farming traditions features the plowing competition and includes an array of activities for everyone in the family.
For the kids, there’s a Friday night carnival, petting zoo, old-fashioned races and games, pedal tractor pull and train rides.
People of all ages can enjoy the craft and art show, horse show, cattle show and vegetable=and-grain show, participate in the bags tournament, round bale roll, old time baseball or 5k fun run/walk. The Junior and Ladies Fairs showcase baked goods, canned goods, handicrafts and photos by kids and adults in competition for over $3,000 in prize money.
“There’s so much to enjoy as you stroll under the oaks,” said Ladies Fair organizer A. Denise Farrugia. “Food and beverages are available, and as always, admission and parking are free.”
