The Kane County Board Office and the Kane County Health Department, in collaboration with Cook County and the city of Elgin, launched a vaccination site today (Wednesday, April 7, 2021) at Elgin’s Eastside Recreational Center, 1080 East Chicago St., Elgin.

Kane County Board Chairman Corinne Pierog speaks with a reporter during the March 19 opening of the Kane Vax Hub on Randall Road.

The new vaccination site will operate six days per week. Exact days and hours are still being coordinated with the city and will be partially based upon vaccine availability.

“It is with great hope that Kane County announces the opening of its third mass vaccination site,” said County Board Chairman Corinne Pierog. “Located at the Eastside Recreation Center, this site will be a unique partnership between Cook County, the city of Elgin, and Kane County, and will provide access to Cook and Kane counties’ underserved communities.

“This cross-county vaccination partnership is a first of its kind in Illinois. We are highly encouraged by the progress being made at Kane County’s other two sites, and look forward to continuing those efforts in Elgin.”

Elgin Mayor Dave Kaptain

Elgin Mayor Dave Kaptain said city officials are proud to host a vaccination site.

“(We) support all of the counties’ efforts to help get as many Elgin residents vaccinated as quickly as possible, especially our underserved population that will benefit from this site’s ideal location,” he said.

Kane County Health Department Interim Executive Director Kathy Fosser said that mass vaccination sites are part of a strategy to protect all of our residents through partnerships and mobile teams.

“This site creates more access to vaccine for our residents and will provide greater reach for us to help vulnerable populations that have been more impacted by COVID, including our African American and LatinX populations,” she said.
