The Kane County Coroner’s Office has identified two Judson University students killed after Tuesday’s four-car crash near the Elgin campus.
According to news releases from the Coroner’s Office and the Elgin Police Department and posts on the Judson University Facebook page, Dallas Colburn, a senior from Plano, and Nathanael Madison, a senior from Wernersville, PA, were killed and two other students were injured in the crash that took place around 9:16 p.m. Tuesday (April 20, 2021) on State Street near Judson Drive.
Police said one vehicle was traveling south on State Street turning east onto Judson Drive, while three vehicles were traveling north on State Street when they were involved in a chain reaction crash.
Colburn and Madison were pronounced deceased at the scene. Two other passengers in the vehicle with Colburn and Madison and two additional people involved in the chain-reaction crash were transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
All of the students were seniors in Judson’s architecture program, according to the Judson University Facebook post.
Judson President Gene Crume shared news of the accident with Judson’s residential students in a special meeting held at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Lindner Fitness Center.
“We are deeply saddened and mourn this tragic loss tonight,” he said. “We grieve with the families and ask for prayers for the students and their families. Our prayers are also with the students who were injured and who will be impacted by this tragic accident.”
Judson’s Wellness Center staff will be available to talk with any students who are struggling with this loss.
The university will announce plans later in the week for memorial services on Judson’s campus to honor the two students who died.
According to the Coroner’s Office, autopsies were performed Wednesday. The preliminary cause of death is multiple injuries due to motor vehicle crash.
