It is always surprising to me how many people come to the recycling events we hold in St. Charles.

On April 10, at the first event of the season, we had close to 800 cars come through in four hours. We collected two semi-trailers of electronics and clothing, and about 50 cubic yards of books for reuse and recycling.

It is surprising, in part, because we have two permanent recycling centers that are open eight hours a day, five days a week — one in West Dundee and one in Batavia — where there are no lines.

Batavia, Fabyan Parkway

  • Location: 517 E. Fabyan Parkway, Batavia MAP
  • Hours: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday (See Holiday Closures)

West Dundee Public Works

  • Location: 900 Angle Tarn, West Dundee  MAP
  • Hours: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday (See Holiday Closures)

Also, here’s a bit of big news: Kane County is collaborating with non-profit partners on a new recycling center location in Aurora, which we hope to have open in June. Keep your eyes open for more on that exciting opportunity.

So anyway, I often wonder: Why do people choose to come wait in a line on a Saturday instead of using the recycling centers? Maybe because the weekday hours don’t work for everyone. But also maybe it is because people don’t know that the recycling centers exist!

Please help spread the word! Let you friends, neighbors, relatives know! We take electronics, textiles (clothing, linens, shoes), and books at the recycling centers Monday through Friday, every week, year-round.

Accepted Items

And you get the same great service! We unload for you at the recycling centers, just as we do at the events, and the cost for recycling TVs and monitors is exactly the same.
