The Kane-DuPage Soil and Water Conservation District is giving residents an opportunity to share their interest in nature and win prizes. The KDSWCD annually sponsors the Soil and Water Stewardship Poster Contest, and for the first time this year, is sponsoring a photo contest.
The Soil and Water Stewardship Poster Contest is open to all K-12 Students in Kane and DuPage counties. The theme for this year’s contest is Healthy Forests=Healthy Communities. Grade divisions are K-1, 2-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12.
A gift certificate of $50 will be awarded to the grand-prize winner and a $25 gift certificate will be awarded to the first runner-up in the K-1, 2-3 and 4-6 grade divisions. A gift certificate of $100 will be awarded to the grand-prize winner and a $50 gift certificate will be awarded to the first runner-up in the 7-9 and 10-12 grade divisions.
Grand prize posters from each grade division will then compete in the Association of Illinois Soil and Water Conservation District’s annual poster contest with the possibility of advancing to the National Conservation Poster Contest.
The KDSWCD photo contest has two age divisions, youth and adult age 19 and up. Contestants may enter as many as five photographs in each of the categories; Conservation Practices, Close-up Conservation, Conservation in Action and Agriculture & Conservation Across America. One first place winner and one runner-up will be chosen for each category in both age divisions. First place winners will receive a $100 gift card and will advance to the Association of Illinois Soil and Water Conservation District’s photo contest. Each runner-up will receive a $50 gift certificate.
Entries for both the poster and photo contest are due April 23, 2021. Posters may be mailed or dropped off from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the KDSWCD office, 2315 Dean St. Suite 100, St. Charles, IL 60175.
