WEATHER ALERT: 3-5 Inches Wet Snow Sunday PM — But Warmer Weather Ahead!

2PM SUNDAY FEB. 21

The National Weather Service Chicago has issued a Special Weather Statement for Kane County and the surrounding area, warning of some intense, wet snowfall this afternoon into tonight.

According to the statement, heavy snow is expected to spread across northern Illinois this afternoon and far northwest Indiana by early this evening, with snow totals of mainly 2 to 3 inches expected along and north of the Interstate 80 corridor.

Heavy bursts of snow will be possible at times, including right at the initial onset of the snow, which may lower visibilities well under one mile at times. Untreated surfaces will likely become snow covered and slippery.

The snow will slowly diminish in intensity into the evening hours and some rain may begin to mix in as well, especially near the I-80 corridor.

What To Expect

Snow will develop this afternoon and continue into this evening, then taper off early Monday morning.

The snow is expected to be wet as temperatures remain near freezing. Snow amounts will taper off to less than an inch south of the Illinois and Kankakee Rivers, where rain may mix with the snow.

5-Day Outlook

SWarmer temperatures are expected through midweek with highs possibly reaching the lower 40s in some areas Tuesday and Wednesday.
