Kane County Mourns Robert Krawczyk — Architect, Professor, Author, Husband of County Board Madam Chairman Corinne Pierog
June 23, 1949 – Jan. 28, 2021
Robert “Bob” J. Krawczyk, 71, passed away on Wednesday Jan. 27, 2021, at his home in Batavia with his beloved wife, Corinne M. Pierog, by his side.
A visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday Feb. 4, 2021, at Yurs Funeral Home in St. Charles, IL. Please scroll down or visit the Yurs Funeral Home website for additional details.
A private family service will be held on Friday Feb. 5, 2021.
Bob was born in Chicago, Illinois and attended Holy Trinity High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from University of Illinois at Chicago and went on to complete graduate coursework at DePaul University.
After working in the private sector as an architect, Bob became a Professor of Architecture at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, where he was named associate dean.
During his 30+ years at IIT, Bob developed and taught computer-aided and digital design coursework. Bob founded art @ IIT, a campus gallery exhibition. His professional work, The Codewriting Workbook, Creating Computational Architecture in AutoLISP was published by Princeton Architectural Press, New York.
Bob also founded a company called “BitArt” that designed, created and manufactured architectural inspired pieces for decor, fashion and lifestyle.
Bob received professional awards, including Building Design & Construction Young Professional Award; American Institute of Architects Young Architect Award; ACADIA Award for Teaching Excellence by the Association of Computer Aided Design in Architecture; and was also nominated four consecutive times to be an United States Artists Fellow.
Bob’s family immigrated from Poland shortly after World War II. His first language was Polish and he really enjoyed going to restaurants for authentic Polish cuisine. Bob was an avid hiker and especially loved visiting Arches National Park in Utah.
Bob and his wife, Corinne, met later in life. Their marriage was a true love story that inspired all who knew them. Bob’s love, support and dedication was instrumental in helping Corinne to become elected as Kane County Board chairman in the 2020 November election.
Bob is survived by his wife, Corinne; brother Konrad (Evelyn); brother Albert (Kathleen); Daughter Alexis (Scott); Step-Daughter Catherine (Jeff); Step-Son James (Summer); Granddaughter Makayla; Step-Grandchildren Brooklyn; Francesca; and Benedetto; Nieces Kimberly; Lauren (Ryan); Kristen (Colm); and Nephew Matthew. Bob is predeceased by his mother Wladyslawa “Lottie” Dolega and Jan “John” Krawczyk (Irmina Krawczyk).
In lieu of flowers, Bob’s family asks that donations be made to install a bench in Bob’s honor in the Kane County Forest preserve. Kane County Board Madam Chairman Corinne M. Pierog issued a brief statement Thursday (Jan. 28, 2021), following the death of her husband, Robert J. Krawczyk, a longtime professor of architecture with the Illinois Institute of Technology and owner of BitArtWorks in Batavia.
It is with great sadness that Corinne M. Pierog, Kane County Board chairman, announces that her beloved husband, Robert J. Krawczyk, passed away at their home in Batavia on Wednesday evening, Jan. 27, 2021.
Services will be held at Yurs Funeral Home in St. Charles, IL.
The chairman will be out of the office until the week of Monday, Feb. 8, 2021, with an exact return date yet to be determined.

Second to his love for family and friends, there is nothing Bob loved more than his local community and the outdoors. In lieu of flowers, Bob’s family asks that donations be made toward a Memorial Bench to be installed in the Kane County Forest Preserve in Bob’s memory.
