UPDATE: One of Twin 14-Year-Old Skateboarders Dies After Being Hit By Vehicle in Unincorporated Elgin

UPDATED 8PM THURSDAY, JAN. 21

One of the twin 14-year-old skateboarders from Pingree Grove hit by a vehicle in unincorporated Elgin has died.

Both boys had been seriously injured in the crash. One of the boys succumbed to his injuries around 4:30 this morning (Thursday, Jan. 21) while being treated at a hospital in Chicago.

According to a Kane County Sheriff’s Office news release, sheriff’s deputies responded at around 5:30 p.m. Monday (Jan. 18, 2021) to a report that two juveniles had been struck by a vehicle in the 39W200 block of Highland Avenue.

Deputies learned that the two juveniles were twin 14-year-old brothers  who were skateboarding at the time of the crash.

Both brothers were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elgin, where they were listed in serious condition as of Monday.

The driver of the vehicle was transported to another area hospital.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office will update this report when additional information is available.
