Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser has charged 20-year-old Ivan Valles with the offense of first-degree murder, 2 counts, for his role in the Jan. 15, 2021, shooting death of 32-year-old Fernando Carapia of Aurora.
Kane County prosecutors allege that the afternoon of Jan. 15, 2021, Valles drove a vehicle to the 300 block of South Spencer Street, Aurora. Someone exited the car and fired multiple gunshots, killing Carapia. The gunman ran and jumped back into the car, which fled at a high speed.
Valles appeared today in Kane County bond court. The judge set Valles’ bail at $1 million, with 10 percent ($100,000) to apply for bond.
The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information should call the Aurora Police Department at (630) 256-5500.
The charges against Valles are not proof of guilt. Valles is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
