KCHD to Administer COVID-19 Vaccine to Phase 1a Health Care Workers This Week
The Kane County Health Department will provide COVID-19 vaccine to health care workers at clinics this week.
Kane County-based health care workers were notified last week that they could make appointments for the vaccination. The clinics are not open to the public.
To date, Kane County has received 15,470 doses of the vaccine, which was distributed to the priority group of the five Kane County hospitals and other healthcare workers.
KCHD is anticipating administering more than 1,500 doses to the highest risk Phase 1a workers this week. KCHD is partnering with Kane County health care providers to administer the vaccine quickly and efficiently.
The first group to receive the vaccine under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations are Phase 1a healthcare workers and those serving in healthcare facility settings who are at an increased risk of exposure.

Health care workers who did not receive the initial call from KCHD are asked to contact COVIDVaccine@co.kane.il.us.
Vaccinations in long term care facilities began last week under a national program administered by Walgreen’s and CVS Pharmacies.
Vaccinations for the general public are not likely to begin until early spring.
Kane County residents will be informed of availability at that time. The Health Department is currently not accepting vaccination appointments.

The public is advised to continue to take precautions. Wear a mask, wash your hands and maintain your social distance. Avoid social gatherings and get tested if you think you have been exposed.
Drive-through community-based COVID-19 testing is available in Aurora at 2450 N. Farnsworth Ave., across from the Chicago Premium Outlets.
The drive-through and walk-up testing site is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Testing is free and available to all regardless of age, COVID-19 symptoms, or insurance status.
A parent or guardian must be present and able to provide consent for individuals under the age of 18.
Mobile Testing in January
A mobile testing unit managed by the Illinois Department of Public Health will be in Kane County this month to provide COVID-19 tests to the community.
- Saturday, Jan. 16 — Hampshire High School, 1600 Big Timber Road, Hampshire
- Sunday, Jan. 17 — Elgin Sports Complex, 709 Sports Way, Elgin
- Saturday, Jan. 23 — Dundee Crown High School, 1500 Kings Road, Carpentersville
- Sunday, Jan. 24 — Elgin Sports Complex, 709 Sports Way, Elgin
The mobile testing unit will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. while supplies last. Testing is free and open to all regardless of symptoms. If you have recently been exposed to a potential or confirmed COVID-19 case, you are encouraged to get tested, even if you are not experiencing symptoms.
A phone number and name are required in order to receive testing results. Photo ID is not required.
