Fast Facts From Snow Event: St. Charles Led Kane County With 6.0 Inches in First Wave

The “first wave” of snowfall information is in from the National Weather Service Chicago website, and the totals are probably less than some people in Kane County observed.

According to the NWS-C chart, Roselle in Cook County recorded the highest snow total, at 7.0 inches.

It should be noted that these are preliminary numbers. Some were reported earlier in the morning on Tuesday and may not include additional snow that fell later in the morning.

That said, St. Charles was No. 1 in Kane County, with 6.0 inches. Aurora was next, with 4.0. Scroll down for a Kane County “top 10” and more from the NWS Chicago.

From Jan. 25 to Jan. 26, 2021, a swath of snow fell from the central Plains to Lower Great Lakes. The highest snow totals were generally along and north of I-80, where 4 to 6 inches of snow fell. A narrow zone of 5 to 8 inches fell east of I-355 due to lake-enhancement of the snow rates.

Higher totals were noted across Wisconsin and Iowa with this system.

  • The official snowfall for Chicago was 6.0 inches observed at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. This was the largest snowfall in the city of Chicago since April 14, 2019, when 5.4 inches of snow fell.
  • The official snowfall for Rockford was 2.9 inches observed at Chicago Rockford International Airport.
  • Other snowfall amounts include 2.5 inches at the NWS Chicago in Romeoville and 4.5 inches observed 3 miles southwest of Chicago Midway International Airport.
