Weather UPDATE: Kane Hit Hard By Snow, Freezing Rain — More Coming New Year’s Day
UPDATE: 8PM WEDNESDAY, DEC. 30, 2020
Kane County communities were hit by 3 inches to 4.7 inches of snow Tuesday night, depending on what part of the county you reside, and drivers faced hazardous conditions Wedbesdat morning as residents coped with the first major snowfall of the winter season.

Icy Roads
Precipitation ended west to east early Wednesday morning, with lingering drizzle through noon.
Much of this was freezing rain or rain at first north of I-80, depending on the pavement temperatures. Some drizzle may also freeze on colder, untreated surfaces after daybreak.
Residual travel impacts due to snow and slush covered roads made for a difficult Wednesday morning commute.
New Year’s Day Winter Weather
Another round of winter weather is expected for New Year’s Day. Snow will switch to a mix, primarily of freezing rain, from south to north Friday morning.
The freezing rain may persist through much of the afternoon. There is still high uncertainty on how long snow and then freezing rain will each persist.

4-Day Outlook
The year will end with quiet weather across the area on Thursday. Snow with then spread north while transitioning to freezing rain on Friday. Some snow and ice accumulations are expected.
