2020 Election Result UPDATE: Kane County Races — Dems Win Board Chair, Circuit Clerk, Auditor, State’s Attorney; Big Changes in County Board

With 291 of 291 precincts counted, Democrat Corinne Pierog is leading Republican David Rickert in the race for County Board chairman.

According to the Unofficial Cumulative Results (PDF), which was updated at 11:54 a.m. today (Friday, Nov. 6), Pierog garnered 114,192 votes to Rickert’s 112,216 votes in unofficial totals. That’s a margin of 1,975 votes.

The margin for Pierog has been increasing since Wednesday, when it was 1,665.

That said, the Clerk’s Office election website says “last day to count vote-by-mail and provisional ballots” is Tuesday, Nov. 17, so it is possible — although unlikely — that some of the outcomes listed below could change.

According to the Clerk’s Office Cumulative Report of vote totals, Pierog received 52,071 votes by mail (63.41%) to Rickert’s 30,051 votes by mail (36.59%). If that pattern holds for the outstanding mail-in votes, Pierog would be the winner.

In other countywide races, according to unofficial totals:

  • Democrat and present County Board member Theresa Barreiro defeated incumbent Republican Tom Hartwell in the race for circuit clerk.
  • Democrat and present County Board member Penny Wegman defeated incumbent Republican Terry Hunt in the race for auditor.
  • Incumbent Republican Sandy Wegman defeated Democrat Brenda Rodgers in the race for recorder.
  • Democrat Jamie Mosser defeated Republican Robert “Bob” Spence in the race for state’s attorney.

In the County Board races, even-numbered districts were up for election.

Republican incumbents Mark Davoust (District 14), Mike Kenyon (District 16) and Drew Frasz (District 18) and Democratic incumbent Jarett Sanchez (District 24) retained office, but there will be several newcomers.

Democrat Mavis Bates (District 2), Republican David J. Brown (District 10), Republican Kenneth C. Shepro (District 12), Democrat Cherryl Fritz Strathmann (District 20) and Democrat Verner (Vern) Tepe (District 22) won election, according to unofficial totals in Tuesday’s election.

Incumbent Republican Douglas J. Scheflow lost the District 22 race to Tepe.

Below are the unofficial vote totals for contested races as posted on the Kane County Clerk’s Office as of 3:50 p.m. Friday. Leaders are marked in red.

Pierog Facebook Post

A facebook post by County Board chair-elect Corinne Pierog says Republican candidate and Kane County Treasurer David Rickert conceded the race on Friday.

“I am honored and humbled by the opportunity to serve as Kane County’s next chair,” Pierog said. “Thank you to everyone who participated in this election, including Dave Rickert, whom I look forward to working with for the betterment of Kane County’s citizens.

“From an increase in COVID cases to small businesses in crisis, we are facing significant challenges in the months ahead. But these are not partisan issues, and when the county comes together, I know we will emerge from our current crises stronger.”
