With New State Mitigations, Local Businesses Encouraged to Update Elgin Mapping Resource Hub

As part of the continued response to the coronavirus and its impacts to the community and economy, the city of Elgin released an interactive mapping hub in May that supports local businesses and organizations, while providing consistent information for its residents.

The city is now encouraging businesses and organizations to update their listings, or be added, as mitigation measures go into effect in Kane County as part of the state’s Restore Illinois Resurgence Plan.

Many restaurants and other businesses and service providers have offerings already listed on the City of Elgin’s Resource Mapping Hub, where residents can go for updated and accurate information. Businesses are encouraged to update their service offerings on by completing the form at cityofelgin.org/MapChangeRequest.

Once the form is completed, the city’s geographic information systems team can update those service offering displayed on the map. If a business is not yet listed on the resource mapping hub, it can be added by completing the signup form at cityofelgin.org/bizsurvey.

“Over the past few months, business offerings have been consistent or changed minimally,” said Communication Manager Molly Gillespie. “With a spike in cases, Kane County is now facing mitigation measures that impact indoor dining, gatherings and more. We want to help inform residents about what is changing for what businesses, so we can continue to support them during this trying time.”

The mapping resource hub provides a single place to find information on Elgin businesses and organizations that are being impacted by the coronavirus.

Restaurants, for example, may now be offering delivery services that it did not previously offer, and the hub provides a place to share that information with the public.

The mapping hub, built by the city of Elgin’s Geographic Information Systems team was compiled using information gathered by partner organizations including the Downtown Neighborhood Association of Elgin, the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce, Explore Elgin Area Tourism Bureau and the Elgin Human Services Council.

Mapping Resource Hub categories include:

  • Human Services
  • School Food Distribution Centers
  • Open Businesses, Places of Worship and Non-Profits
  • Restaurants
  • Temporarily Closed Locations
