What’s Open, What’s Closed Columbus Day 2020 in Kane County?

It’s been a strange year by any standards, and the “what’s close, what’s open” question for holiday weekends has taken on a whole new meaning.

That said, much of the info — with perhaps the exceptions of businesses and public transportation and community events — is familiar.

Weekend events involving big crowds have, of course, been canceled or altered. Probably the most prominent locally is Scarecrow Fest in St. Charles, which this year has been re-imagined as the Scarecrow Stroll.

In other years, this has been the weekend of the Chicago Marathon, with Metra travel deals. Not so this year, as the Marathon is a virtual event.

Here’s a look at what else is open and closed in Kane County on Columbus Day, which falls on Monday, Oct. 12 this year:

Banks

Businesses

  • Most retail businesses are open Monday, Oct. 12, 2020. That includes department stores, restaurants and grocery stores. Many businesses even have Columbus Day sales in the store and online.

Garbage and recycling collection is not operational in many cities and villages on Monday, but check with local public works offices at the links below..
