Judicial Center Children’s Waiting Room Opens After 7-Month COVID Closure

The Kane County Children’s Waiting Room at the Kane County Judicial Center has reopened today (Monday, Oct. 5, 2020), after being closed since March 17.

The childen’s waiting room was closed back in March following the governor’s executive orders and CDC guidance for daycare centers.

The waiting room, which provides daycare for the children of people in court, is reopening with several improvements and with COVID-19-related safety restrictions in place.

The Kane County Bar Foundation operates the program, and has approved a reopening plan that follows the guidance of the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services, Illinois Department of Public Health, the Centers for Disease Control, and the 16th Judicial Circuit Court.

The CWR will now require reservations to be made for a child to be accepted for care. The reservations may be made via telephone 630-232-3954 or by website (www.kanecountybarfoundation.org). Limited space is available.

The parent and child must complete a COVID-19 screening questionnaire prior to beginning the registration process.

Children who exhibit any symptoms of the virus will not be accepted for care. Those children over the age of 2 are required to wear a mask while they are in the CWR. Parents must bring a change of clothes for each child, and there will be cubbies available outside of the CWR for parents to use.

The Children’s Waiting Room has been redesigned to provide the optimal space for social distancing according to guidelines. Children will be allowed to have a secure place to play, that restricts their potential exposure to the general public.

CWR staff will be utilizing several types of personal protection equipment to ensure the least amount of exposure for all parties.

“The CWR staff is excited to reopen and looks forward to seeing children soon,” officials said in a news release.
