Aurora Man Pleads Guilty To Sexually Assaulting Child

An Aurora man has agreed to a 12-year sentence for sexually assaulting a victim under 17 years old.

According to a Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office news release, Rogelio Gaona Garcia, 37, agreed on Oct. 22 to a sentence of 12 years of imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections in exchange for a guilty plea to two counts of criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony.

Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Lori Schmidt stated in court that between 2011 and 2018 Gaona Garcia sexually assaulted the victim. Gaona Garcia knew the victim, who was younger than 17 years old.

In addition to the prison term, Gaona Garcia must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.

In accordance with Illinois law, Gaona Garcia must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence. He receives credit for 651 days served in the Kane County jail.

The Kane County Child Advocacy Center investigated the case with assistance from the Aurora Police Department. The CAC prosecuted the case.
