Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon has charged 30-year-old Robert C. Peoples with four counts of aggravated DUI, a Class 4 felony, after he reportedly rammed his Jeep into two East Dundee police vehicles.
Kane County prosecutors allege that at about 2 a.m. Sept. 19, 2020, East Dundee police were investigating a DUI on IL Route 25 near Albert Drive when Peoples, driving a black Jeep, allegedly struck two East Dundee police vehicles, causing heavy damage to both vehicles.
The emergency lights of both police vehicles were operating at the time of the crash. Neither of the East Dundee officers were injured.
Peoples appeared Sept. 19, 2020, in Kane County bond court. Associate Judge Alice C. Tracy set Peoples’ bail at $30,000, with 10 percent ($3,000) to apply for bond.
Tracy set Peoples’ next court appearance for 9 a.m. Sept. 29, 2020, in Courtroom 217 at the Kane County judicial Center.
Peoples remains in custody in the Kane County jail.
The charges against Peoples are not proof of guilt. Peoples is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
