The Geneva Chamber of Commerce has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Festival of the Vine due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event was scheduled to be held Friday, Sept. 11, to Sunday, Sept. 13.
Geneva Chamber of Commerce President Paula Schmidt said the community and visitors look forward to Geneva festivals year after year, but the health and safety of those who may attend a festival is the top priority of chamber officials.
“While this decision was difficult, Phase 4 guidelines do not permit an event the size of Festival of the Vine. We felt this decision is for the safety of our Festival of the Vine visitors and participants,” she said.
To keep the spirit of the event alive, the chamber has created “Sip & Sample Through September,” a month-long event of restaurants offering a sip and a sample of a popular or new item.
“It is our hope that patrons will then stay for breakfast, lunch or dinner in that eatery and help support the Geneva Chamber, as well,” Schmidt said.
Tickets and more information for Sip & Sample Through September will be available by Monday, Aug. 24, on the chamber’s website.
“We thank the community for their support and know that the Geneva Chamber is working on creative ways to have smaller, permittable events,” said Laura Rush, Communications Manager of Geneva Chamber of Commerce.
Updates on all festivals and events may be found on the chamber’s website.
