The Kane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a July 1 head-on crash on Plank Road that took the life of a Sycamore man and injured a Waukegan man driving a pickup truck.
According to a Kane County Sheriff’s OFfice news release, deputies responded at around 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, to a report of a traffic crash with injuries on Plank Road east of County Line Road in unincorporated Burlington Township.
The initial investigation indicates that a Buick Enclave driven by Roy Harmon, 44, of Sycamore was traveling west on Plank Road and for an unknown reason crossed into the eastbound lane, where it struck head-on with a GMC pickup truck driven by Wayne Woolford, 52, of Waukegan.
Both drivers were transported to Amita Health St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elgin, where Harmon was pronounced dead and Woolford was treated for minor injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by sheriff’s deputies and members of the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team.
