Fourth of July 2020: Fireworks, Celebrations In And Around Kane County

Generally this time of year, Kane County Connects posts the giant list of Fourth of July parades and fireworks celebrations, and it’s often among the most-read articles of the year.

This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the fireworks displays won’t be happening in Kane County communities. Most fireworks shows have been cancelled altogether for 2020; a few — as in Huntley — are rescheduled to September.

However, there are a few celebrations taking place, and there are some nearby communities that are hosting drive-up fireworks shows.

Here’s a brief roundup:

Events, Fireworks For The Fourth

According to ABC7, there are some drive-up fireworks displays and a few parades around the Chicago area.

Batavia VFW is hosting a mini-parade so that kids can have a chance to participate in the celebration. The event starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 4. “Mom and dad are welcome to march with the little ones,” the VFW says.

After the parade, the VFW will serve hot dogs, chips, and soda free for kids 8 years old and younger. It’s $5 a plate for everyone older than 8.

Nearby Naperville is hosting a fireworks show on Saturday, July 4. The event takes place at the Frontier Sports Complex, where there are 906 parking spaces. An additional 1,000 parking spaces will also be available at Neuqua Valley High School, 3220 Cedar Glade Drive.

Spectators are encouraged to practice social distancing at all times. For those wishing to watch the show from home, NCTV17 will be providing a live broadcast of the event.

Also, nearby Yorkville is hosting a celebration and fireworks. The fireworks will begin at dusk and will be shot off near the corner of IL Route 47 and Countryside Parkway. Please note that Countryside Parkway from Route 47 to McHugh will be closed between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. due to the fireworks.

Any fireworks updates or cancellations will be notified through the United City of Yorkville Parks and Recreation Department’s Facebook page.

Likewise, the village of Oswego is not too far from some parts of Kane County, and the village is hosting its own fireworks at Prairie Point Community Park, located at 4120 Plainfield Road, between Plainfield and Grove Roads.

Parking is available at Traughber Junior High School, Eastview Elementary, Prairie Point Elementary and Oswego High School. Handicapped accessible parking will be available at the Oswego School District’s bus lot, 100 Plank Road.

Other fireworks displays that are a little farther from Kane County include July 3 drive-up fireworks in Bridgeview, the Schaumburg Boomers drive-in fireworks shows (there is a cost, and a July 2 event has been added), an Orland Park drive-up fireworks display and a July 3 fireworks display by the village of Romeoville.
