Coping With COVID-19: Fox Valley Sustainability Food Security Forum Set For Aug. 6

    

The impacts of COVID-19 continue to ripple through our lives. The Fox Valley Sustainability Network is exploring these impacts through their forums – the next to focus on our food system.

With supply brought to the forefront of our minds, supporting local businesses and the accessibility of fresh, healthy food are becoming topics of conversation.

The U.S Food & Drug Administration has been one of the institutions working to address food safety through COVID-19. Now the FVSN is turning to local resources to take on future challenges when it comes to food security.

On Thursday, Aug. 6, the FVSN will host a webinar on building a local, resilient and equitable food system.

Kane County staff will give an update on regional initiatives to support local food supply and noticeable trends occurring since the onset of COVID19.

This includes the Growing for Kane program that provides guidance for increasing the supply of locally-grown healthy foods, benefiting farmers and supporting networks that supply healthy food options.

Following will be a local producers panel with speakers from The Conservation Foundation’s Green Earth Harvest program, Mighty Greens Farm, and Fishy Greens Organic Farm.

This will provide an opportunity for you to hear from the people organizing Community Supported Agriculture, creating additional means of local production through aquaponics, and selling goods at farmers markets.

The Food Security Forum will be held via zoom from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, Aug. 6.
