A 24-year-old Chicago man died Sunday afternoon after a motorcycle crash on IL Route 25 in St. Charles.
According to a St. Charles Police Department news release, police and St. Charles Fire Department personnel responded at around 4:15 p.m. Sunday (June 14, 2020) to the 2500 block of North 5th Av. (IL. Route 25) for the report of a vehicle crash involving injuries.
Upon arrival, officers found that the crash involved a motorcycle and a sports utility vehicle.
The motorcyclist was unresponsive. Officers and paramedics began resuscitation efforts. The motorcyclist was transported to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police have identified the man as Jorge Perez, 24, of Chicago.
A preliminary investigation has shown that a Suzuki GSX-R motorcycle driven by Perez was northbound North 5th Avenue between Country Club Road and Red Gate Road. The motorcycle entered the southbound lanes in an attempt to pass two other northbound vehicles, then struck a southbound green Ford Escape head-on.
Witnesses said Perez was traveling in a large group of motorcycles. Perez reportedly stopped to block traffic in the intersection of North 5th Avenue and Country Club Road so that the other motorcycles could go through the intersection together.
In attempt to catch up to the group, Perez attempted to pass the two vehicles and struck the southbound Ford Escape, police said.
The driver of the Ford Escape was treated by paramedics and released on scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
