IDNR Reopens Fox River To Recreational Boating For First Time in More Than a Month
For the first time in more than a month, the Fox River is open to recreational boating.
According to a post on the city of Geneva website, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources announced the Fox River has been reopened to boating and other recreational activities as of 4 p.m. Wednesday (June 3, 2020), after water levels have receded back to normal.
The IDNR had closed the Fox River in our area to recreational boating on April 30, when Kane County communities were deluged by 3 inches of rain in 48 hours and the National Weather Service Chicago issued a Flood Warning.
The river is still high, and officials recommend boaters use caution as they return to boating activities.

Fox River Closed To Recreational Boating as of April 30
Kane County communities have been deluged by 3 inches of rain in the past 48 hours — causing the National Weather Service Chicago to issue a Flood Warning and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to close the Fox River.
As of 4 p.m. today (Thursday, April 30, 2020), the Fox River is closed to recreational boating until further notice.
The river is closed from its mouth at Pistakee Lake south to the Bridge Street Bridge in Millington. That includes the Fox River in Kane, Lake, McHenry and Kendall counties.
“High water levels, swift current, floating debris, submerged structures and piers have created conditions significantly hazardous to navigation,” INDR officials said in a report.
Flood Warning
A Flood Warning is in place until 1 p.m. Monday.

A significant amount of rain fell across much of the area since Tuesday afternoon, with widespread 2 to 3 inches and pockets of 3 to 5 inches.
