Geneva Chamber Hosts Virtual Swedish Days June 25-28, 2020

Geneva Chamber of Commerce is planning a virtual Swedish Days for 2020 — and it’s pretty darned near as jam packed with events as the real thing.

“While the actual event has been canceled due to COVID-19, we still wanted to recognize Swedish Days this year,” said Laura Rush, Geneva Chamber of Commerce communications manager.

Assorted events, that can be done virtually June 25 through June 28, are posted on by mid-June. Including kids’ activities, concerts and Swedish Days history options.

Additionally, the Geneva Chamber will be selling “Swedish Days 2020 … NOPE!” T-shirts for $14 each. Sizes available will be M, L, XL and can be ordered at Proceeds will be evenly distributed to non-profit food booths who had signed up to sell at Swedish Days this year.

“We recognize that for our non-profits, their food booths during Swedish Days is one of their largest fundraisers,” Rush said. “All of these organizations benefit so many others and since we are not able to enjoy their delicacies in person, we feel this is a wonderful way to support them.”

Another option to indulge in Swedish fun is a purchase of our Swedish Days Box. (See photo above.) Loaded with Swedish goodies, it can be purchased on our website as well. Limited quantities available.

“We encourage everyone to visit and experience Swedish Days a little different this year,” Rush said.

Swedish Days 2021 will be June 22-27.

Nurtitional Information from the Dietitians at Delnor Hospital

The dietitians at Delnor Hospital, The Cancer Centers and Living Well Cancer Resource Center participate in The Community Kitchen at Delnor and classes for participants at The Living Well Cancer Resource Center to provide education on healthy cooking.

Many of the in-person activities have been restricted during the COVID Pandemic, so dietitians developed an alternative way to present their philosophy on nutrition- — The Mediterranean Lifestyle and Meals.

“We started making You Tube Videos for Living Well called Quick Bites to provide participants information on healthy eating based on this meal pattern and also offered tips on what to do during a time of constraints during COVID-19,” officials said in a news release. “Nutrition is important for everyone and can make a big difference in your general health and well-being but may be more difficult if there are food shortages or limited supplies.”

  • Our first video, presented by Nancy Zawicki, a registered dietitian at Delnor, “Fresh Berries”, highlights the benefits of berries with simple ideas to create delicious and nutritious dishes.
  • The second video presented by Mary Zupke, a registered dietitian at Delnor, “Baked Taco Cups”, highlights a quick, simple and healthy way to prepare a special taco meal.
